AB 32 & Small Business

Last night I had the privilege of attending an event where the Union of Concerned Scientists unveiled the results of their study measuring the negative costs associated with the implementation of AB32, which requires that CA CO2 emissions be rolled back to 1990 levels by 2020. The law goes into effect in 2012 and includes an oversight board, reporting requirements and “compliance mechanisms.”  Through actual case studies it was determined that the impact to small business would be almost negligible. The example used last night was the Border Grill restaurant in Santa Monica (a fantastic eatery) where it was determined by UCS that the increase would be $0.03 on a $20 meal.  Would it bother you to pay an addition three cents to reduce CO2 emissions?  The report will be posted on the USC website shortly.
